Tierra Summer Strings

Issaquah Suzuki Strings holds two summer programs for our students and families; "Tierra Summer Strings" an overnight family camp in Leavenworth, and" Tierra in the City" day camp in Issaquah. We alternate years for each camp. For 2025 we will be in Leavenworth from June 30-July 3. (We will be back for "Tierra in the City" 1/2 day camp in Issaquah in summer 2026!)

Our goal is to provide a rewarding group musical experience, furthuring the develpment of each student's insturmental technique while exploring new music and sharing that experience with others. Our camps are primarily geared towards students of Issaquah Suzuki Strings teachers, however we do invite students of other teachers upon request. A typical day includes traditional Suzuki group playing, orchestra and chamber music, fiddling classes and musical movement activities. All of our activities and classes are carefully adapted to the age, interest and playing level of each student. We also save time for fun group activities outdoors!

Our summer program at Tierra Learning Center in Leavenworth is a 4-day, 3-night family experience of music-making, socializing and relaxation near the beautiful town of Leavenworth. The center is a quick 10 minute drive from downtown Leavenworth. Most classes and evening activities are held in the main lodge, where we also eat our meals. There is a giant porch surrounding, where you’ll find families love to congregate!

We sometimes use the outdoor amphitheater for rehearsals and performances, with a background of tall pines. Afternoons you’ll find kids on the sport courts or playing in the sprinklers on the large playing fields. There is a lavender maze, a treehouse and several hiking trails to explore with your family during free time. A favorite evening activity is the talent show followed by S’mores around the fire pit. We will conclude the 2023 camp with a public outdoor concert in Leavenworth.

Most families choose to stay in one of the on-site cabin suites which this year will be booked through Issaquah Suzuki Strings and paid to Tierra Learning Center (note that lodging and meals are NOT included with your child’s tuition.) The cabin suites sleep up to 4, with one bedroom with a double bed and a living area with a pull-out sofa. There is also a mini-fridge and microwave in each suite. Meal plans for students and family members are available through Issaquah Suzuki Strings when you register your student and are paid separately from tuition. All meals will be provided by a local caterer and are healthy, family-friendly, and provide options for special diets if requested ahead of time.

For the best camp experience we recommend booking with us at one of the Tierra cabin suites. However, some families choose to stay off-site in hotels or other rental housing in the Leavenworth area. This is a great option if you have other siblings or parents who want to explore the many recreational activities the area has to offer!
